I doubt whether Skinner and others would have liked
the Fall during their Beefheartian, anti-music phase
between 1979 and 1984. I remember them being criticised
for becoming "rockist", ha ha. Mark Smith was extremely
nervous (or wired ?) in a 1977 "So It Goes" interview with
the legendary Tony Wilson. I wonder if Peely would have stayed
a worshipper if they had done a U2 or a Clash, fame-wise ?
But MS should go down in history as the greatest poet
of the North since Roger McGough et al. Melvyn Bragg should
do a documentary on him instead of some obscure clarinetist etc.
