If it wasn't for John Peel, the label Rhino Records may never have
been. In 1976, Rhino Records was just a little record store on
Westwood Blvd. in Los Angeles. One day, Wild Man Fischer happened to
walk through the door, which amazed and excited the Rhino employees,
who were big fans of his. They asked Wild Man Fischer to record a
jingle for the store. They took WMF into the back office and recorded
him on a 2-track tape recorder singing a song called "Go to Rhino
Records," which WMF made up on the spot! The track was pressed onto a
45 which they gave out to customers as a freebie. It wasn't long
before John Peel got a hold of the record and started playing it on
his show. "Go to Rhino Records" charted at #48 on Peel's year end
Festive 50 in 1976. Rhino Records started getting so many orders for
the "Go to Rhino Records" single from England, that they decided to
record a full length Wild Man Fischer album. And Rhino Records, the
label was born!
