hmmm - but the worry is with all this "unsigned bands" nonsense is that you never know if they really ARE unsigned - or if they are about to be signed and plugging them as being "unsigned" is an easy way to generate a buzz among listeners - everyone in the industry wins...Radio 1 look hip and the label get guaranteed sales/fanbase.

I know this has always gone on to a certain degree...were Bis really unsigned when they went on TOTP? and how many of them Fierce Panda singles were financed by major labels trying to break their indie bands? but without the principles of a 60 year old bloke who has been at the station for 40 years and will not take shit from ANYONE - it could quite easily go horribly wrong. The likes of Zane and Huw are young and want to get on, if they value their jobs they can't AFFORD to have principles when it comes to matters like this..

I think Radio 6 will quickly become the only BBC station worth listening too - I know for a fact that Lamacq can pretty much play what he likes on his Radio 6 show, but his Radio 1 show is largely driven by pluggers and payola. Mind you once Radio 6 gets any kind of increasing listenership the pluggers will move in there too no doubt...
