I remember Peel doing a special 40th birthday show, although I remember him saying specifically that the 40 tracks were not necessarily his all-time favourites, just records he wanted to hear on his 40th birthday. I remember the tracks included Mike Hart's Almost Liverpool 8, Gene Vincent's Race With The Devil and the Undertones' Jimmy Jimmy. As regards the hyper-inflationary In Session Tonight, it's worth noting that the book was published some twelve years ago. One hopes that Ken Garner and/or the BBC will at some stage consider publishing an updated book, taking in everything broadcast up to October 2004. I can recall John doing his show in the 80s on Saturday afternoons, during of the Beeb's many attempts to alienate him and his audience! (I am fairly sure I didn't imagine this). Among the delights were Ian McCulloch (Bunnyman, not Notts County striker) phoning in a match report. There was a thread on the rocking vicar newsletter just this week about football-themed music. Can't recall much from the show which was purely football-related (e.g. team songs etc) but obviously the entire Half Man Half Biscuit back catalogue has fitba references peppering it. John's Fabric mix album has the Kop singing on it though. Its purpose it basically to continue his fine work of bringing New- and-up-and-coming Bands to the Public via a Radio Station. Due to the fairly tight regulatory body that is the Radio Authority, our Group feels that the only cost and Listener-effective way forward is via an Internet Radio Station. Are you interested? Quite a few Members from this Group also joined Peel F.M., but have since drifted away. We have just been through a period of quiet, listening to One Music to see how it fayred on Radio One. My opinion, and the general concensus appears to be that whlist Huw and Rob are doing a good job, the spectrum of the Musical Content is not really wide enough for us. Ras Kwame I personally find very one- sided in terms of both Music Choice and Presentation. Our Group varies from this one, from what I can see, in as much as it seems that this Group is dedicated to talking about and listening to Classic Peel Sessions and Programmes, etc. Our intention is to do this as well, but to concentrate more on the new and un-heard of - in essence to continue John's work in our own small way. This message is not set out to criticise this Group, its Members, its aims or objectives, but merely share our thoughts with you, in the hope that some of you maybe interested in being a part of Peel F.M. Many thanks for your time. Goodnight. http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/PeelFM From fitfee68@... Mon Apr 18 03:10:36 2005 From: fitfee68@... When Stuart mentioned Half Man Half Biscuit it was beginning to look as if, unforgiveably, I'd got it muddled up with "Dickie Davies Eyes". I'd wondered if it was a band called The Tractors but when I did a search for them (and other possibilities) on the net all I could find was some 'country' band from the States. We have had reports that AVG Free Edition reports that Install_Indy.exe is infected by Downloader.Istbar.8. We have investigated carefully and confirmed that this is not the case. We have contacted the makers of AVG Free Edition to report this erroneous behavior. In the meantime it is safe to disregard this report.
