>surely the classic Peel timeslot is 10pm to Midnight?
I'd have said so. Mondays - Fridays.
i've often suspected in the past that some demeaning change of
timeslot was intended to push Peel out, and there have ben worse ones
than this. Though if you were Parsnip and were choosing a slot for a
60+ presenter, would you seriously give him one even later at night
than before? (I'm assuming Peel hasn't 'volunteered' to be up until
1am, though I might be wrong).
On the brighter side for me at least, it means I can catch some of
Radcliffe (I think) or the first hour of Jim Gellatly's show, and
may mean I hear Peel more often as I'm more likely to listen to the
show on repeat in a oner (I often come home and catch the last hour
or less).
Oh, this news item from NME.com perhaps says more about the state of
the magazine than anything else, as it fails to mention the Peel show
changes.
The main changes, which will start in July, are:
* Zane Lowe - Zane will now have four shows from Monday to
Thursday. The new shows will begin at 7pm.
* Mike Davies - Mike's punk metal show 'The Lock Up' has now been
brought forward to 9pm (previously 2am) as part of Tuesday night's
rock strand.
* Bobby & Nihal - Their Asian beats show had been brought forward
to 9pm (previously 3am) as part of Wednesday night's urban strand.
* Experimental - Every week day there will be a one hour show
dedicated to showcasing the new and unusual from the worlds of music,
comedy and art in a late night 3am slot.
Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt said: "Radio 1's remit is to break
the best new music to the widest possible young audience."
