True, trading mp3 session tracks is theft. But, these are session tracks, and I would claim promote the artist, rather than reduce record sales. (For arguments sake i do have LC's album, Not the trembin' kind"). I have an email from the Cuban Boy's Ricardo commending me on having his session tracks on napster. > It's probably unlikely, but if someone objects then it'll me me that gets > into trouble. I can't imagine a situation where I'd get in trouble, let alone the list moderator. There has never been a criminal case brought against a private individual for software or music theft, ever. > PS If you volunteer to take the rap, then some of the new stuff from the > Gary Numan session please! You're on! I am entirely to blame for everything. Gary Numan is scheduled for the week after next (would a 2-3 day change over be better?). Maybe not in the UK, but in Belgium the day Napster lost their latest court case the copyright authorities instigated criminal cases against a token 50 Napster users (out of an estimated 12000 Belgian users) for copyright abuse. -- John Bravin From goofy@... Been a while since Ive posted to this list but I wanted to comment on this: > > Not wanting to be a wet blanket, but does Ms. Cantrell know about this? > > I suspect not as her record company aren't very keen on the whole mp3 > > thing at present. > > True, trading mp3 session tracks is theft. But, these are session > tracks, and I would claim promote the artist, rather than reduce > record sales. As Ive understood it, if anyone should raise a fuss over these mp3 files it would be the BBC, not the record companies. BBC owns the rights to these recordings while the respective companies own the rights to the original recordings theyve released. There have been numerous cases when the bands / artists record company has wanted to release these session tracks (as B-sides etc.) and theyd had to pay the BBC over the rights to do so. Who cares about the companies wellbeing anyway? I think the only moral issue here is that the artists themselves wont see a nickel. But nobody made them record these radio sessions at gunpoint, now did they? Its all promotion, baby, and very good at that. > Gary Numan is > scheduled for the week after next (would a 2-3 day change over be > better?). Yes! I mean NO to Numan (but go ahead anyway), what I mean is, surely about two sessions a week would suit everybody better? Cheers, Goofy From morriso@... Mon Mar 5 03:29:33 2001 From: morriso@... I got into the band thanks to a recent live broadcast on John Peel, and this performance from last year sounds pretty well performed and mixed, to these ears! Kind of nice of them to put some of their tracks online at a site like this, I think (even though I'm slowly tracking down and purchasing the back catalogue regardless)! And they kindly linked their mp3.com site to my band's too! Regards, Andrew Morrison Email: morriso@... ICQ No. 52250781 Website: http://www.trustnoone.co.uk - Free mp3 downloads from this site.
