It was certainly in the FF in the year that it came out (1987? 1988?),
although I thought it was one of those ones that got in without him
having played it.

I remember that too, although you may also remember him raving about a
Michael Jackson concert a couple of weeks either before or after the
Prince one. He was quite impressed with the show put on by each of
them (I'm pretty sure it was the "Lovesexy" tour by Prince) rather than
their back catalogue. Either that or we can maybe look forward to a
big surprise appearance of "Beat It" in the ATFF top ten.

I seem to remember around about that time he played a B-side of a
Prince single and said it was the best thing he'd ever done.

Yes - And get those Killie scum relegated.

Oh, aye - best Fall album? I'd go along with "Extricate" as one of
their best. I'm a bit surprised with the praise for "Kurious Oranj" -
I think it's one of their worst (along with "The Frenz Experiment" that
came out around the same time). Of the old, old ones, well, where do
you start? "Live At The Witch Trials", "Bend Sinister", "This Nation's
Saving Grace" and a dozen others are all good in my book.
